POEM
WHEN THE RAIN COMES
by Steve Anc

The green grass dances,
And bald birds tweak.
The stressful souls rest,
And bow knees raise.
The world cherishes its native root,
And the people rejoice.
Though the birds had flown at a lesser speed,
And the hummingbirds had sung in a lesser tune.
The grasses had glanced as visitors,
Because the land had sat as barrenness.
But when the rain comes—
The birds will sing in relief,
And fig trees will flourish.
