Pandæmonium or Pandemonium

A wild uproar, a chaotic situation.

Origin
The word pandæmonium was first used by John Milton in 1667. It is the name of the palace built in the middle of Hell, “the high capital of Satan and all his peers, built by the fallen angels” and the abode of all the demons; in John Milton’s epic poem “Paradise Lost”.

Example usage
At the mere mention of a possible bomb, pandemonium broke out in the crowded town hall.
