I inhale the crisp fragrance of sunrise and let it wander in my breaths.

The trees stand tall, their pristine dress coats beginning to turn golden at the edges. I draw Santa hats on the foggy window pane, clearing just enough glass for my eyes to watch the sky. My nose is as cold as my fingertips now, but I can almost see Santa’s sleigh darting through the deep midnight, his every journey over the years replaying in my head.

The memories of childhood are dim yet sharp. The edges are a little fuzzy and faded but the core is vivid. I can still taste the cinnamon and apple, smell the wafting coffee and hear the crackle of the wood fire. My heartbeats pick up speed in anticipation. Gift unwrapping had always been my favourite time.

As I stand lost in the near-forgotten Christmases of long ago, my reverie is broken by the warm clasps of two tiny hands pulling at my fingers. I savour the excitement in their dancing eyes for a moment before we walk towards our tree.

It’s show time!

To me, Christmas is not a mere festival, it is a feeling- a feeling of warmth, joy, kindness, nostalgia and hope. It is a time of togetherness and giving. I don’t celebrate Christmas as a part of my religion or culture but still, it is one of my favourite times. I put up a tree whenever I can, and a good book, a rich cake, a hot drink and Christmas songs and carols are a ritual that I look forward to.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or just enjoy the holidays, I wish you immense happiness, lots of love and a wonderful time ahead. May the magic of the season touch your heart and fulfil all your desires 💖🎄

May your Christmas story be one you remember fondly forever and ever... Merry Christmas
