CANDID CONVERSATIONS: Mona Soorma talks to Ken Jorgenson

Welcome to the first episode in this series of interviews with poets and writers and today, I am talking to former international rugby player Ken Jorgenson.

Ken, who is a very talented poet and writer, played rugby for the Danish team, earning six caps in 2000-2001. Playing for the Markham Rugby Football Club, he has also coached both junior and senior players successfully and has received a 20 Year Volunteer Achievement Award from the Province of Ontario for services to the (rugby) community. Somewhere along the way, he also became a popular feature writer for the magazine “The Pub Review”. He writes poetry on his Instagram page and has just finished writing his first novel called “The Black Horse Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Small Town Ontario Pub”. It seems there is nothing that he doesn’t do well!

As soon as he agreed to join me in a video conversation, an adventure had begun. Of course, I did not know anything about it then. In between some poor connectivity and a lot of chaos within, I began to talk to him. He, as you will all see, is an excellent communicator and we talked with ease, helped along by the fact that we already knew each other through our poetry. And at the end of it all, the internet played mean and we ended up losing the entire conversation! I simply did not know how to react!! Yet this wonderful person quietly agreed to do the whole thing again. So we changed devices and began again, I kept on altering the questions on the go to try and keep the interaction fresh, and just gave myself up to the pleasure of this exciting new experience. I hope you will enjoy listening to him as much as I did.

Over to Ken… do comment and share your views and suggestions, or talk to Ken through the comments box here or on YouTube. I know he would love to hear from you.

Until next time with another writer…
