MICROPOEMS

THE REBELS
Micropoetry by Rod Raglin

A tulip blooming defiantly in a field of thistles

the truth about a lie

dubious, illogical,
the truth is a mongrel
muttered, misshapen

plausible, well-considered
the lie is a purebred
ready on the lips

spawned from an eclectic gene pool
truth is strong, resilient

genetically modified and manipulated
the lie is fragile, vulnerable

speak

truth unspoken
a stillborn child
promise unfulfilled

silence
future unrealized
death in safety

defiance

in response to the silence

a tulip blooms amid a field of thistles
a house finch sings above rush hour’s roar
graffiti defaces a safe space
and from the wall
a brick
goes missing

small acts of defiance are better
than none at all
