SHORT POEM
HARDER NOW
by Ed Ahern

It is harder for me now
to relish the moment
or take pleasure in
the boisterous howls
of spontaneous joy.
Harder with all the thens
strung out behind me
It’s harder to expand love
with the most loved gone
or among the absent
Deep pleasure thrives
in unthinking glee and
I have thought about
too much for too long.
After over four decades in foreign intelligence and international sales, Ed Ahern returned to writing. He’s the author of twelve books and has had over 550 poems and short stories published. Ed is on the editorial board at Bewildering Stories, handling the other side of writing.
