COME LEH WE GO

"Come leh we go!"
Grandma says it so
"Girl, the church gonna end if you walk like you got an egg!"
Breaking my little legs, I gripped onto this strange hat
that flew with the wind
while the string held my neck like a sling
Grandma only smiled at my little predicament
as she continued to greet the elderly folks
on our way into the small, charming church filled with praise
my shiny princess dress and big red bow made me feel so special
like a pretty little girl to them
but they don't know I'm all grown up
have you seen the size of my pinky
or the way my legs can move more quickly?
but this time spent with Grandma, whom I rarely see
I can make an exception to ensure she's happy
even though mommy thinks she's too country.
