POEM
TEAM
by Kim Malinowski

I want to be part of a team of geniuses—
all brains, all motion,
math equating God, physics a friend.
I want magnets and explosions,
rockets and romance,
solutions always on the tongue.
I want to calculate opera to the decimal
and love to the nth x pi.
I want my algebraic nomenclature to defend bystanders,
each equation solving high stakes puzzles.
I want a team where psychobabble and sciencebabble
and grammarbabble is welcome and robust.
I ache for creativity leaping on the magnetic poetry board,
and post-it note trigonometry.
Calculations, formulas, good versus evil with a damn calculator,
with a dusty thesauruses and ink,
understanding that millions will die without a quick calculation
or a poem.
I want to matter that much.
