ESCAPE THE EGYPT

A saviour standing against the sunset

I built part of the palace in Luxor, with blades behind my back and locks on my lips. I carried in my head what made Giza necropolis what it is today, until all my hair fell out. I watched my brother being murdered for not being a worthy slave by men in leather tunics and sporrans. I witnessed with my consciousness the haste to join our foremothers, rather than spending a day building mummies and soon to be forgotten gods.

The unlucky ones amongst us didn’t live a day to behold the old Cairo. The one who escaped, spared by Osiris’ sword, was raised as a saviour destined to carry the burden forward. It took him decades to save himself from Alcazar. Another one-third of a century before he came to save us. For he heard a Voice and saw a Cherub from a scorching blaze.

A hardened heart and a denary of plagues later, he saved us from Egypt.

Though in our hearts we turned back to Egypt, he did save us.
